May 13,2017 will go down in history as one of the best days of my life . I will graduate from the illustrious Howard University. My degree will read a “ Bachelor of Arts in Media,Journalism, and Film with a Concentration in Journalism, with a minor in Afro-American Studies.
Four long years of hard work, sleepless nights, drunk excursions and endless laughs with friends all comes to the culmination on this one day. United States Senator Kamala Harris, aHoward Alum, will be giving the final address to the class of 2017 and I could not be moreexcited.
Harris has accomplished so much in such a little amount of time and I have to say I’m very impressed. As a former Capitol Hill intern I saw first hand on how much work it takes to be on congress. As a Howard alum,Harris knows the struggles that students face on Hilltop High. She is an example to all that with hard work and perseverance you can accomplish the dreams you set out.
It will be extremely difficult for anyone to follow President Barack Obama who spoke at the commencement ceremony for the class of 2016. Many students anticipated or hoped for a big name like former First Lady Michelle Obama or political strategist Angela Rye to be the speaker, but I think a U.S Senator that is also African-American, a woman , and Howard Alum is a great choice. As the days start to wind down I am ecstatic about hearing the great Kamala Harris speak at my commencement ceremony from the university I hold so near and dear to my heart.
